Sai Ravela
- Principal Research Scientist
- Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences
- Director of the MIT Earth Signals and Systems Group
Hailing from India, Sai Ravela, PhD, directs MIT's Earth Signals and Systems Group. His research includes climate risk, sustainable agriculture, and coastal resilience. He integrates data, theory, models, and expertise under two MIT Climate Grand Challenge projects. He actively quantifies cyclone-induced risk and is developing both soil observatory and sustainable livelihood solutions in Southwest Bangladesh. Ravela also investigates extremes in a changing climate, where he leads physics-coupled machine learning approaches to model extreme risk and resilience. Ravela is a systems scientist of Earth, planet, climate, and life, with a focus ranging from exoplanets to conservation and seismology.
