Noormah Rizwan

Noormah Rizwan is a postdoctoral associate at the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS). She works closely with Daniela Giardina and Rohit Karnik to develop and apply an original analytical framework for assessing irrigation technologies in dry areas. The framework evaluates both technological maturity and the conditions required for successful deployment at scale, while identifying gaps where promising solutions are lacking or have yet to scale.

Prior to joining J-WAFS, Noormah’s research focused on how farmers and households adapt to water scarcity and climate change. Her doctoral research examined agricultural adaptation in Serbia, including crop and irrigation decisions, as well as household responses to unreliable urban water supply in Karachi, Pakistan. Her work combines economic modeling, spatial and climate data, and field research to inform policies that support adaptation to water scarcity.

Noormah holds a PhD in agricultural, food, and resource economics from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in applied economics from Georgetown University, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences.
