  • Project and Communications Assistant
  • J-WAFS

Sophia Steckler is the Communications and Project Assistant for the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT. Sophia works on the designs and strategy of J-WAFS communications, including research, events, social media, and analysis of the lab.

Sophia is a master's student studying Media Advocacy at Northeastern University, a program in collaboration between the College of Arts, Media, and Design, and the School of Law. Sophia’s interests lie in the intersection of environmental policy, advocacy, and community engagement, and she is passionate about bridging the gap between scientific research and information and the public. She joined J-WAFS in July 2026 through Northeastern’s co-op program and is excited to be part of this team in promoting J-WAFS' work to investigate water and food systems that operate and impact a myriad of areas. Outside school and the office, Sophia enjoys dancing, all art mediums but especially collaging, travel, and crossword puzzles.
