Sofia Rutman

Sofia Rutman is the Communications and Project Assistant for the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT. Sofia assists in the creation and dissemination of communications produced by J-WAFS, and supports research, analysis, reporting, social media outreach, and event management.

A second-year history and international affairs student at Northeastern University, Sofia joined J-WAFS in January 2026 through Northeastern’s co-op program. Sofia is enthusiastic about promoting the important work of J-WAFS researchers that helps to improve water quality, food production, climate solutions, and other impact areas related to water and food systems. When not working, Sofia enjoys visiting museums, completing jigsaw puzzles, and playing chess.
